LVR ROGERS DANCE DEPARTMENT

Welcome to Ms. MacMillan's page. Here you will be able to find extra copies of program information, course outlines, assignments, audition times, rehearsal schedules, order forms as well as links to dance websites, summer schools, university dance programs and conferences that you might find interesting. This is the place to be to keep yourself up to date on what is happening in the Dance Department at LVR.

KOOTENAY LAKE SKILLS ACADEMIES / LVR DANCE ACADEMY

We are still accepting applications for the Sr. Academy 2009-2010. There are still a few spaces available for students. The Sr. Academy is running in timetable for students in grades 9-12 with a strong dance background. Interested dancers should complete an application packages which are available in the office.Application packages, schedules, and course outlines are also available in the Academy Folder located on the right side of this page.

DANCE COMPANY DNP 10/11/12 2009/2010

This year I am proud to announce that LVR will be running a new course titled, "Dance Company", which will replace the dance team.

This course is designed for advanced dancers in Grades 9-12. This performance based ensemble will create new works, tour and attend workshops, festivals and competitions. Students will be responsible for production tasks throughout the year. This group will meet off timetable once weekly on Tuesdays from 3:15- 5:30 pm. Additional rehearsals will be required and are considered part of the curriculum.

Students will be required to both audition and interview for placement in this program. Students should have completed Level II Dance or have equivalent experience prior to application. There is still space in this course for interested/qualified applicants. Please see Ms. MacMillan for details.

THE MOVING CENTRE

We will be having many of our long blocks throughout the semester at the Moving Centre, located downtown on Baker St. Dates, times and transportation arrangements are posted in the Moving Centre folder in the sidebar. Please note that each student, as well as the office staff, have also been given copies of this schedule.

DANCE ATTIRE

We will again be ordering tights and bodysuits from Limbers Dance Discount. Order forms and sample sizes are available from Ms. MacMillan. All orders must be submitted with payment, cash or cheque-payable to LVR- no later than Sept.18th.The order form is also posted in the order forms folder in the sidebar.

A quick reminder... Dance students are required to wear attire specific to the class. On Mondays ballet attire is recommended along with all hair being neatly pinned back. If you can't remember what the class order is please review the course outline posted in the general information folder.

2008-2009 HIGHLIGHTS

FIELD TRIPS & GUEST ARTISTS

We had an incredible field trip to Vancouver. The students who travelled on this trip visited SFU, the Dance Centre, took classes with Mo Brody and Kathryn Ricketts and went to Ballet B.C. We also took in an incredible performance by the Langley Fine Arts Dance Program.

A big thank-you to Josh Beamish from MOVE for the fantastic workshop on March 13th.

We also had a master class in early February with Ballet Jorgen. Great work to all who danced their hearts out!

The dance team travelled to Armstrong in April to compete in Adrenaline at PVSS. The girls danced impressively and had a high score of 94 out of a possible 100 in one of their routines.

We participated in International Dance Day on April 29th and raised awareness about our program and our need for adequate space.
